Aspen Family Trip (Sep. '13)
For my dad's 60th birthday, I treated him (and my mom, of course) to a weekend of fly fishing in Aspen on the Frying Pan River. While he was catching trout and enjoying the gold medal river, my mom and I kept busy hiking a few different trails in Aspen. It's an absolutely beautiful place; I can see why the rich and famous choose to spend so much time there. We also stopped at the Independence ghost town, founded back in the late 1800's as part of the gold rush. Winters got so bad they eventually gave up, tore their homes down to make skis and made their way back down to Aspen. It was a fun trip and it was great to spend a weekend with my parents. Happy birthday Dad!

As we left Aspen we looked back over the west Twin Lake towards Independence Pass. You can see the storms chasing us over the mountains, with the changing aspens down lower.
