Crested Butte Summer Trip (Aug. '13)
Every summer, Sarah and I make the four-hour drive down to Crested Butte to spend several days, and this year was no different. Last year we went during the Crested Butte Arts Festival and had a great time, so we decided to go the same weekend this year. The town was packed- but since we're willing to put in some extra effort to get off the beaten path, we had the hikes to ourselves. The first set of pictures is from our hike to Hasley Pass, which lies between Crested Butte and Aspen and is one of the most spectacular views I've ever seen. The wildflowers were still sticking around from a few weeks ago, so that made the scenery even better. The second hike we did was to Green Lake (easy to tell in pictures), which sits at close to 12,000 feet and is under Ruby Peak and Mount Owen. I hiked an extra 800 vertical to get to the saddle between the two peaks and had a great view down onto the lake from above. Finally, the last few pictures are from the East River trail, which skirts the south east side of Mt. Crested Butte.
