Southern Colorado- Ridgway and Owl Creek Pass (Oct 2010)
In Colorado, the first weekend in October is typically the best time to view the changing aspen trees. Knowing that and the fact that I hadn't been back down to the Telluride area in over five years, I decided to go on a mini road trip, solo. Before sunrise on Saturday morning, I left home and drove to Ridgway, Colorado, home of the famous Dallas Divide and County Roads 5 & 7. The views from these roads are spectacular- unfortunately for me, the quality of pictures was degraded slightly due to some forest fires in Utah making it a little hazy. No worries- I captured the pictures regardless. The second day took me over Owl Creek Pass, one of the most beautiful mountain roads I've ever driven on. The views are outstanding and the terrain is very peaceful. I discovered a small lake called Beaver Pond, which you'll see in several pictures here. Overall, I drove 800 miles in two days and came away with these great pictures of the Southern Colorado landscape. Next time Sarah will definitely be accompanying me!
